I was born in Rome, Italy, in 1976. I received a bachelor's degree in economics in 2004 and a master's in quantitative methods in 2005 from the University of Rome Tor Vergata. After spending two years working at the Italian National Institute of Statistics, I went back to academia and I was awarded a Ph.D. in econometrics and empirical economics, also by the University of Rome Tor Vergata. My thesis was awarded the prize for the best Ph.D. thesis in applied statistics and demography in 2011 by the Italian Statistical Society. My work on "Consistent inference in fixed-effects stochastic frontier models", appeared in the Journal of Econometrics, was awarded the prize for the "best young researcher" paper at the XII European Workshop on Efficiency and Productivity Analysis (EWEPA).I became an associate professor of econometrics at the Department of Economics and Finance of the University of Rome Tor Vergata in 2019. My research interests focus on microeconometric methods with applications in health, production, and spatial economics. I am the primary author of three popular Stata commands providing a significant addition to Stata's capabilities in terms of stochastic frontier, two-part and spatial models. Their popularity allowed me to win the 2018 Stata Journal Editor's Prize and make me one of the top young economists in the world, according to the Repec algorithm.I was a visiting scholar at the Department of Economics of the City University of New York (CUNY), where I worked on the development of a robust estimation procedure for finite mixtures of regression models. I am one of the code developers for the EuFEM project, a dynamic microsimulation model projecting the future costs and health status of the elderly in Europe, and co-investigator for the Historical Household Budget (HHB) project.Outside my day job, I enjoy spending time with my family, swimming, playing tennis, and listening to rock music.
