Growing up, I have never been the most confident person. I was always afraid of speaking up and drawing attention to myself. However, through taking up various leadership roles in Primary and Secondary School, I was able to develop my communication and leadership skills. Yes, I fear the idea of having to present in front of a crowd. But I believe that I'm slowly getting over my fear of public speaking.Some things I enjoy are playing badminton, doing math and volunteering. After playing badminton for ten years, I find myself being able to work with others to strive hard and achieve a common goal. I enjoy solving math problems as it encourages me to think logically. Through math, I was able to learn not to be afraid of getting things wrong, as I found out that reflecting and finding out why I got it wrong was more important. As for volunteering, the idea of being able to give back to society was what intrigued me the most first. However, after being able to communicate with people from various backgrounds and see things from different perspectives, I have learnt that there is so much more to volunteering than just giving back to society. It was more of learning interpersonal skills. Hence, I feel that I've come a long way in terms of getting to know myself and developing my strengths to be able to effectively use and apply these values and skills on a day-to-day basis.

  I started helping out at my Primary School bookshop in Secondary 2. I was tasked with arranging and selling books to the students at Kong Hwa. Through this job, I learnt that it is important to always pay attention to small details as it is very easy to calculate the total cost wrongly. I am also able to develop my communication skills through speaking with the parents.
