ActiveAllies.org advances climate action and justice through youth employment and intergenerational collaboration. From people at LinkedIn and elsewhere, we're recruiting a core team, mentors, sponsors, and donors to support young people’s essential work: to defend, repair, and regenerate their communities and our world. We started in the San Francisco Bay Area in close collaboration with 350 Bay Area and ClimateBase.org, and partnering with Airminers, the Anthropocene Institute, ClimateChangesEverything, Climate Coalition, ClimateLink, The Climate Mobilization, The Determined, the Foundation for Climate Restoration, Presidio Graduate School, and other partners in the wings.

The Foundation for Climate Restoration is the nonprofit parent of the Healthy Climate Alliance; I'm a strategic advisor to both. Here's what I wrote back in 2017 about HCA; it still applies:I'm getting hopeful as I and others are starting to allow ourselves the goal of what we really want, and what is now technically and structurally possible: a healthy climate, not just a slower path to catastrophe. So now I’m collaborating to build global commitments for five big strategies: 1. Get off fossil fuels ASAP. 2. Price carbon. 3. Draw down carbon to reverse global warming. 4. Restore our air and water to their pre-industrial quality. 5. And while we build support for all that, rebuild Arctic ice by 2030.

I started writing about climate change as I prepared to testify before the California Air Resources Board, saying that the campaign for mass-production of plug-in cars could help inspire a broad strategy to respond to the climate crisis. My first article said if the threat of climate change came in the form of an asteroid heading toward earth, the people and nations of world would unite to save ourselves.I've been proposing ideas, strategies and perspectives ever since; some have turned into projects. In 2016 not a single question on the topic in Presidential debates! We put together a wiki profiling all Senatorial incumbents and candidates, and many candidates. We worked to enlist leading voices and organizations to inspire millions of Americans to “Talk About A Climate Election Everywhere & Often.”We launched ClimatePolitics in 2016 as a nonpartisan wiki assembling in one place what candidates and elected officials say and do about climate. We worked to expand from Congress & the California legislature to other state and local elective and appointed bodies.We'd hoped to "Make 2018 a Climate Election" but it became clear other very compelling issues would fuel the energy that year. We offer other movement activists the platform for customized version of our wiki to enable crowdsourcers to put together in one place what candidates and incumbents say and do on their most important issue.

CalCars.org, a nonprofit startup, assembled entrepreneurs, engineers and other citizens promoting advanced technology cars and proving that buyer demand can help commercialize needed products. We declared victory in 2009 when automakers committed to mass-produce plug-in hybrids, starting with the Chevy Volt.We focused first on technology development, demonstrating the opportunity and benefits of the next generation of hybrid cars based entirely on existing components. Led by Ron Gremban, we built a proof-of-concept what we call "PRIUS+". For-profit integration partners then began to offer installed conversion "kits" to celebrities and entrepreneurs in the hopes of persuading Toyota and other OEMs to build PHEVs. And battery makers started using the Prius conversions as platforms to get attention to their new technologiesWe saw our advocacy and public development, making the connection between grid-connected vehicles and advances in wind and solar power, as a coordinated response to global warming, and demonstrating the job benefits of encouraging a transition in the auto industry to electrification.I started CalCars when, after selling eConstructors.com , I began advising Amory Lovins' Hypercar, which led to the launch of CalCars. We were a mostly-volunteer effort (including an open-source-style technology discussion group), but we received small contributions from a well-known entrepreneur and a major foundation.

I founded, raised $1M from angels for this marketplace for web development services. We built the net's largest searchable directory of companies and freelancers building websites, and, at whobuiltit.com, the only reverse directory linking websites back to their creators. Acquired in early 2001. I had a great time as the web was exploding, and I never did anything I regretted.

One of the first desktop publishers; first to start a DTP service company focused on nonprofit organizations, producing flyers, newspapers, magazines, books. Co-author in 1990 with Maggie Lovaas of the first book on the business of DTP, "Desktop Publishing Success: How to Start and Run a Desktop Publishing Business," 20,000 copies sold, published by Business One (formerly Dow Jones-Irwin). Co-founded first DTP user group within NY Macintosh User Group.Having gotten my feet wet in promoting the group to target audiences and user groups, in the mid-1990s, as the web arrived, I became one of the first online marketers, with clients including Slipknot shareware, Citysearch, and an early attempt at microtransactions that was promising but fell victim to founderitis.
