I have a Veterinary Medicine degree from Federal University of Uberlandia, Brazil. While pursuing my Veterinary Medicine degree, I participated in many activities focusing on microbiology, infectious diseases, and preventive veterinary medicine.I graduated from North Carolina State University with a Ph.D. in Poultry and Animal Sciences and minors in Food Safety and Biotechnology. My doctoral work focused in pre-harvest food-safety and Salmonella control in poultry. In 2010, I was hired as senior researcher at EMBRAPA Swine and Poultry, Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture. My research topic included the study of Salmonella in the Brazilian poultry industry. I was also de curator of our microbial collection.In 2013, I started at AdventHealth University and was responsible to teach a variety of science-related courses, which included microbiology, pathophysiology, epidemiology, and genetics. In addition, I started a line of research in microbiology focusing in probiotics and prebiotics.In 2017, I started at AdventHealth as a research scientist at the Center for Thrombosis Research (CTR), and my focus shifted to immunology and hematology, more specifically, autoimmunity and its relationship to platelet biology and physiology. I conducted research using mouse models and worked in the development of new therapeutics.Currently, I am a teaching assistant professor at NC State University. My teaching responsibilities include the Food and Bioprocessing Sciences Capstone class, Food Packaging, Food Ingredient and Post-harvest Food Safety.
