Goal: design and fabricate a lab-ready fixture to assist in energy harvesting of a piezoelectric beam.Objectives: Eliminate resonances within the frequency range of 50-500Hz, total mass less than 300g, and precise adjustment of the end mounts that support the PZT beam to repeat buckling height.Results: Successfully fabricated prototype on an end mill. The buckling height was repeatable within 0.175mm proven by a 3 trial test while the lowest resonant frequency was reached at 753.1Hz. We were able to fabricate a final prototype with a total mass of 278g.

Achievement story: I was tutoring an 8 yr old girl in Spanish and Math twice a week for about a year. At one point her Mother brought up a concern...that her daughter was counting with her fingers but she'd prefer her to start keeping it in her head. With the child-like spirit I try to maintain, I grabbed the nearest ball (in this case a tennis ball) and started bouncing it with her back-and-forth, back-and-forth, as we began our tutoring session. A few days later when I returned for another session, her Mother pulled me aside and told me she sees her 8yr old daughter playing bouncy ball and doing Math with her youngest daughter and thank'd me for my help. Understanding the goals and expectations of the Mother while simultaneously gearing the lesson to appeal to her daughter was fundamental to achieving success for all of us.
