Fernando Lezama received an M.Sc. degree (with Honors) in Electronic Engineering - Telecommunication (2011), and a Ph.D. in Information Technologies and Communications (2014) both from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM), Mexico. He was a research visitor with the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering (DEI) at the University of Bologna (2013) and Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna (2015), Italy, where he worked with topics related to optical networks and the fifth generation of mobile technologies (5G). He was also a postdoctoral researcher at National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics, and Electronics (2015-2017), Mexico, where he worked in the development of intelligent systems for optimization in smart grids.Currently, he is a researcher in GECAD, Polytechnic of Porto, Portugal, where he continues his research in computational intelligence for Smart Grid applications. He is also part of the National System of Researchers (Level-I) of Mexico since January 2016.His research interests include computational intelligence, evolutionary computation, network planning, and optimization of smart grids and optical networks.
