Co-Founder, Director, and de novo Executive Director of successful, not-for-profit, research institute focused on proving conjectures at the frontiers of mathematics. Introduced team sports derived method of proving complicated mathematical conjectures. AIM's research method is based on collaborative, inter-disciplinary, teams and has resulted in the publication of over one thousand papers. AIM's success in mathematics research has led to approximately $100 million in funding by the National Science Foundation. The NSF selected AIM as a National Institute (analogous to a DOE National Lab). AIM will be co-locating with CalTech in 2023.

Fry's Electronics was a retailer of electronics through big box stores and the web. Successful turnaround of distressed retailer by designing and developing new information systems to increase sales while simultaneously improving controls. Used business acumen and software knowledge to design programs to get control of inventory and to achieve a twelve-fold increase in POS throughput- moving the company into financial viability. Developed and implemented strategy of using network based programs to guide thousands of inexperienced employees in providing informed customer service. Applied customer history data to streamline the product return process and make it customer friendly. Sales and profits increased each year for these 13 years. Overall, new systems resulted in sales growth from $200 million to over $3.2 billion annually.

The Institute for Research on Learning studied learning and the effects of knowledge on business and social situations. Led successful turnaround of IRL, a not-for-profit, with Fortune 500 clients and federal government research grants. Secured working capital financing required to avoid shut down. Collected past due accounts. Re-focused staff on revenue producing projects. Corrected accounting and reporting that had mis-informed previous management. Successfully completed all government agency audits.

ARCO is a fully integrated (from exploration to gas pump) oil company. During a time of retrenchment in the oil business, used budget process to reduce costs and improve efficiency. Decentralized IT department and applied technology to develop first client server applications. Prepared and presented monthly financial reports to Chairman/CEO and Board of Directors. Contributed to two successful IPO's of subsidiary companies.

Developed strategic plan and a quantitative five year plan for each of ARCO's companies. Created combined integrated financial and resource plans for the corporation using computer modeling. During a period of financial hardship for oil companies, developed a model of ARCO's financial structure that led to issuing unprecedented amounts of debt and using the proceeds for stock re-purchase. Predicted and achieved increase in both EPS and share price.

Used background in Decision Analysis and Probability Theory to developed methods and computer models to evaluate proposed oil exploration projects.
