An industrial collaboration developing cell culture models of the outer retina for the study of retinal degenerative disease.

Investigating the potential involvement of placental growth factor in age-related disease of the outer retina under the guidance of Processor Alan Stitt and Dr Imre Lengyel in collaboration with Oxurion in Leuven. Primary techniques used include cell culture (cell lines and primary cells), molecular biology (including PCR, western blotting, ELISA, immunocytochemistry, and in situ hybridisation), and transepithelial electrical resistance. Also familiar with fluorescent and confocal based microscopy. Experience working with small rodents and performing in Vivo opthalmic investigations including OCT and ERG, as well as post mortem histological examinations of retinal sections and flatmounts.
