About Fiona Murphy

Having started as an adviser in the contact centre in July 2005 at Ireland's largest health insurance company, I then progressed to the role of Learning & Development Specialist and for five and a half years I worked as part of the management team as Vhi's Compliance Manager. I then spent a fantastic year back in Learning & Development working as Learning and Development Manager with responsibility for capability development across the organisation. During this time I also took up the position of Diversity and Inclusion Lead and helped to establish the Vhi Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee which has responsibility for the reviewing, agreeing and overseeing the implementation of Vhi's Diversity and Inclusion strategy. I then spent four years as Assistant Company Secretary working with the Boards and senior executives on all governance related activity for the Vhi group of companies. I am currently Group Sustainability Manager and, working with our Head of Sustainability, was involved in the development of Vhi's sustainability strategy in 2023, and now its implementation. Particular areas of focus that I have worked on include ESG governance, ESG communications and training, climate risk, net zero decarbonisation and preparing for Vhi's first disclosures under the CSRD in 2026 on FY2025. Throughout my career I have embarked on a path of continuous professional development. I hold qualifications in health, general and life insurance, an Executive MBA from the Smurfit School of Business and was part of the first graduating class of the MSc in Compliance. I also hold the Professional Diploma in Leading Cultural Change and Ethical Behaviour with the Institute of Banking, a Diploma in Personal, Leadership and Executive Coaching with Kingstown College, the Diploma in Organisational Transformation and Change from the Smurfit School of Business. In terms of ESG specifically, I have completed the Certificate in Responsible and Sustainable Finance and just recently, the Professional Diploma in Sustainable Finance Reporting and Disclosures both with the IOB and Cambridge University's Business Sustainability Management course. I am hard working, flexible and results focused individual, I have proven my dedication and commitment to both my work and my professional development and the achievement of excellence in all that I do.

During 2018, I was asked to lead out an initiative that would review Vhi's practices in the area of diversity and inclusion with a view to recommending appropriate and relevant actions. I took on this role in addition to my main role as Learning & Development Manager and later, Assistant Company Secretary. While we had many relevant policies and procedures already in place to support a diverse and inclusive workplace, my work built on that foundation and expanded and enhanced it in a number of ways. I helped to establish the Vhi Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee, drove the design and rollout of our first Diversity and Inclusion employee survey which informed the pillars of our programme which still stand today, helped to establish a number of Employee Networks, managed the marking of key events such as Pride, International Women's Day and Mental Health Awareness Week, established the Vhi Voices Choirs, developed our Diversity & Inclusion Policy and worked with HR and our Board to approve our Inclusivity Scorecard and associated KPIs as well as embedding diversity and inclusion KRIs in our Risk Appetite Statement. I remain an active member of the Diversity & Inclusion Steering Committee.

As Learning & Development Manager, I was responsible for developing and implementing the Learning & Development Plan for the insurance group of companies within Vhi as well as managing the study assistance scheme and the overall training budget. I worked with managers from across the business on identifying and agreeing learning solutions and led and assisted on organisational projects from a training perspective. I managed a fantastic team of 11 Leaning & Development Specialists who delivered technical, product and development training solutions including induction training. Ensuring compliance with CPD requirements also fell within my remit including overseeing the provision of lectures and support to those completing exams under the Minimum Competency Code. During 2018 I also helped to establish the Vhi Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee and as part of this role I completed a number of benchmarking visits with other companies and drove the design and rollout of our first Diversity and Inclusion employee survey.
