At Digby Wells, working as an environmental consultant has given me a more complex understanding of corporate strategy and corporate operations. I have been responsible for writing proposals and winning work, liaising directly with clients on a weekly basis, management, and organisation of in house and external specialists and invoicing to clients. I have continued my work stream with Environmental, Social (and Health) Impact Assessments (ESIAs/ ESHIAs) however I have my moved focus to international mining projects such as Mali, South Africa, Tanzania and Pakistan. Continuing to work on environmental assessments for international projects has given me greater depth to my understanding of complex stakeholder needs and highlighted the importance of working in partnership with project affected communities.

I currently with within the Earth and Environment arm of WSP within the Environmental Assessment and Consents (EAC) team. My role is rather varied as I work on projects which fall under most of the WSP service delivery industries. I have worked on energy projects such as carbon capture and storage, water projects such as flood alleviation schemes, property development, and transport and highways projects such as park and ride schemes, road and junction improvements and feasibility studies. The projects see a multidisciplinary team of WSP colleagues and any outside partner consultancies working together collaboratively to achieve exemplary finished products to clients. The style of work which I have completed has primarily fallen under the Environmental Impact Assessment phases. I have worked on scoping reports, constraints reports, feasibility studies, EIA documents where I have authored the upfront and closing chapters and been supported by specialists when authoring specialist topic chapters.In addition to my role I have been leading the volunteering efforts for WSP's commitment for Social Value for the West Sussex County County framework and I have been supported by colleagues in my endeavors. In this role I have organised corporate volunteering with charities in West Sussex which has involved contacting charities and organising suitable dates for the events, conducting the site risk assessment, advertising the event to the local teams and ensuring everyone has a great time away on site. In addition, I am an office lead representative of WSP's Professional Growth Network which is a network for Early Career Professionals and run by Early Career Professionals. We hold regular events to promote networking, supporting professional development.

I was a graduate summer placement student working in the Environmental Assessment and Management arm of WSP. I had the opportunity to work on numerous projects both at home in the UK and internationally. Some of the projects and activities I have been involved in include bat emergence surveys, bat activity surveys, environmental constraints reports, feasibility studies, social value activities such as STEM@WSP and organising corporate charity volunteering days.

The river through the village often floods multiple times per year and impacts the village accessibility. As part of Northamptonshire Council’s Path Finder Project which strives for flood prevention, volunteers such as myself work to engage with the local community to discuss the impacts of flooding, how residents may be affected, how to prepare emergency contacts and exits and identify vulnerable groups. Identifying riparian owners and ensuring they are maintaining their section of water through discussion of the impacts of blockages is also key. I have learned how to approach the key stakeholders and discuss issues and planning with them in order to achieve a common end goal of alleviating flooding for the community.Flood Warden responsibilities include:-Attend meetings to discuss maintenance of watercourses and at risk areas in the community.-Operating and maintaining the 'Storm Guardian' rain gauge system.-Clearing drains to maintain effective run off drainage.-Identify vulnerable properties and residents.-Distribute information regarding floods and awareness in the community.

This project revolved around University of Southampton's highly competitive Student Innovation Projects where a local food waste start up business requested help in expanding their networking range, increasing their client base and a new marketing strategy.I acted as team leader for the project, organising timelines, workload division and the main point of contact for our client. Having created a business report for our client, the team conducted a presentation to communicate our research findings and new business strategy for marketing. In this role I developed teamwork skills, public speaking and presenting abilities and further improve time management and organisational skills.

I worked at Wolverhampton City Council in the Planning Department conducting research for the Black Country Plan and compiling a policy proposal document for senior members of the council with sustainable options for building and low/zero energy generation policies. The Black Country Plan is a working group of Wolverhampton, Dudley, Walsall and Sandwell Councils which aims to improve sustainability across the region and provide equity to each area. The Policy Proposal included the policies which would be feasible for the region and would be likely to succeed. In this role I gained significant experience in researching and reading government and local authority documents and highlighting the key areas of interest. I also gained experience in writing professional work place proposals and executive summaries.
