Aspiring Maths in Wanaka, is operated by Fiona Shepherd, a New Zealand qualified teacher with over 30 years' experience in schools, teacher education and mathematics education research.Fiona offers one-on-one maths tutoring for students of all ages. This can be face-to-face or online using Zoom.Fiona is an approved facilitator of professional learning & development (PLD) and is available to support individual teachers and schools, as well as teachers transitioning into tutoring. Her Masters' thesis was titled "Mathematics as a Secondary Subject: The Girls' View" where she researched girls' experiences of secondary school mathematics. Fiona has presented at many national and international conferences including ICME and MERGA. This research has informed Fiona's teaching practice in that she aims to make the teaching and learning of mathematics fun, creative, collaborative, and relevant. She aspires to break down any barriers to being successful in mathematics.Fiona's MA was conferred with Distinction, a grade of A+.
