Joan is a professional non-executive director who has 40 years of commercial business experience and more than 20 years of director experience. In her senior commercial roles she gained extensive change management experience and demonstrated great leadership capability, delivering successful business results including strong engagement of people. She has more than 20 years experience of doing business in Asia.She has worked in FMCG and heavy industry environments across the globe and for more than 20 years worked in the financial services sector specialising in insurance, reinsurance and risk management. Joan completed 16 years as CEO and Director of the Australian & New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance in December 2013. As CEO Joan revitalised and expanded the business & its international reach. She is currently a much sought-after consultant via her company Alvearium Pty Ltd focusing on helping teams achieve and sustain high performance, and uplifting strategy, risk and governance capability. As a non executive director Joan is regarded as a highly effective, valuable and hard working director. She currently Chairs four Boards and is a member of two other boards. She is chair or a member of several committees including audit, risk, remuneration, governance and capability. She is also an advisory board member to World Vision, and Greenfleet. Joan is a qualified barrister and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Her company Alvearium Pty has been operating successfully since 2014 and through this she runs a consulting business advising and supporting executives in strategy, business planning and leadership capability. She also provides pro bono consulting to various charities and causes and has a particular focus on mentoring and supporting women and championing women's equality in society.
