I am a thought leader in genomic research, with a proven track record and passion for generating the evidence needed to achieve the promise of personalized medicine. During the course of my 20+ year career, I have worked as a clinician-scientist in hospital, academic, and industry settings. I have led strategic research programs and teams focused on translational work to bring cutting edge techology into practice, giving me a unique ability to understand the needs of patients, the concerns of those working in patient care, and the gaps in and overarching direction of the clinical genomics field. The global vision and leadership I bring to the field of genomic medicine is rooted in my own diverse cultural background and the experiences I have had living and working in the United States, Europe and South America. Fluency in multiple languages both literally and figuratively informs my ability to work in trans-disciplinary and cross-functional envinroments, and build collaborative relationships with stakeholders at all levels and across diverse settings. Moreover, my multicultural perspective has instilled in me a deep desire to conduct my research with a focus on race, ethnicity, and ancestry groups that have been historically under-represented in genomics, seeking opportunities to bring equity to the genomic testing landscape. By nature, I am a scientist, detail-oriented and focused on the evidence base. By training, I am a collaborator, able to build bridges across differences in perspective or culture. In all of these, I am guided by a belief that the work we do is essential for the many patients and clinicians who are in search for answers that could very well stem from a better understanding of the genomic code. My daily motivation is fueled by the extraordinary potential of genomic medicine to improve lives.
