• Directed the operations of a racially and economically diverse suburban school district, serving approximately 6,600 school children at 11 schools with an annual budget in excess of $100 million.• Oversaw budget planning and management, payroll, purchasing, capital planning and facilities management, technology, transportation, food service, grants, and legal and regulatory compliance.• Engaged in strategic planning and problem solving for the district as a member of the Superintendent’s Senior Leadership Team and managed all public meetings of the Board of Education as Board Secretary, including development of Board agendas and resolutions.• Facilitated the rollout of a new student information system, the recruitment and hiring of a Director of Technology, the development of a strategic technology plan, and advocated for and obtained funding for the district’s largest ever investment in technology, including upgrades to network infrastructure and performance, student and staff computers and classroom projectors.• Implemented new processes and internal controls and conducted training of principals, administrators and secretaries to enhance compliance and efficiency, reducing audit findings each year.• Developed, publicly presented and defended, and obtained approval and funding from the Board of Education and Board of School Estimate for the district’s annual operating and capital budgets.

• Directed an office of approximately 50 administrators, auditors and clerical staff that is the internal audit arm for the nation’s largest school district, serving approximately 1.1 million students at 1,700 schools with an annual budget in excess of $20 billion.• Oversaw audits and reviews of financial systems, regulatory and grant compliance, data integrity, and programs, activities or functions of department operations; drafted reports and memoranda to central leadership with key findings and recommendations.• Greatly expanded the OAG’s role in proactive risk consulting with central leadership, managers and outside partners on internal controls, regulatory and grant compliance, revenue preservation, audit readiness, and risk management; partnered in the design and launch of a new Office of Compliance.• Expanded the use of data analysis to drive risk-based audit sampling in the OAG’s annual audits of fiscal performance, fraud, waste and mismanagement, and of student enrollment and demographic data that drive both external revenue and internal budget allocation.• Represented the school district on all external audits and reviews by federal, state and local oversight agencies, including review and validation of external audit procedures and findings; coordinated response strategies, drafted responses to and press statements regarding public audit reports; and worked with key managers to design, promote, implement and test corrective actions.• Designed and executed a high school academic data audit that examined academic data for all 460 district high schools and selected 60 schools with the most troubling data patterns for testing in three areas: credit and exam accumulation and course crediting, Regents examination scoring, and student discharges; published a comprehensive report with 17 recommendations to address deficiencies identified at the audited schools and to improve the accuracy and reliability of high school academic data citywide.
