I am a successful/prolific freelance journalist and content creator, specialising in the business and technology market, mainly around enterprise IT and the CIO agenda. For the last few years, I have concentrated more on public sector and healthcare ICT coverage. I have coming up for 30 years experience (I came into reporting in 1989 after a stint working in the IT industry as a programmer), holding both junior and senior positions at such titles as Computer Weekly, Computing, Information Week and PublicTechnology.Net, working on both sides of the Atlantic (UK, New York, San Francisco). I am also a commercial copywriter if appropriate, e.g. press releases/case studies/white papers/brochures. I round out my writing with training, which I enjoy a lot, as both media trainer, both for clients (how to speak to the press) and AEs (how to pitch better to journalists), often delivered in conjunction with a course that seems to be gaining in popularity, one on how to write better business prose. I have started to work on helping clients create social media (blogs especially), which is another stimulating addition to my work 'mix.' In personal terms, I take my responsibilities as a non-resident father very seriously, which means I spend some of each week on child care. It's worth noting I live just a bit outside the M25; I'm in West Lancashire, at least for the foreseeable. I am also something of a convert to the idea of on-going education/CPD, with my third MA - in Creative Writing, now under my belt.
