Third Officer
Pugnax - Polar Class (PC3/ARC7), Heavy Transport Vessel
Maritime Simulation Instructor/Lecturer
Provided bridge simulation instruction to Dutch and Belgian maritime academy students at both the HBO (university) and MBO (junior college) levels. Students attend a week long course during their second and fourth year at the academy; focusing on bridge, engine room, high voltage, and stability simulations. Simulators use the K-Sim (2020) Konsberg operating system. I was specifically requested to collaborate with a Master research project about the effectiveness of simulator training using Design Based Education. The initiative to have a more hands-on, student-based approach to instruction is coming from the NHL Stenden Hogeschool. They are using the University of California system as a template.

Cadet Second Mate
As Cadet Second Mate I worked together with the ship's captain to prepare the vessel for its two month voyage with 300 of my fellow students and 40 officers/instructors. This year long contract taught me how to get a ship up and running from start to finish from a navigational perspective. This ship sits alongside the dock for 9 months of the year. It was the perfect opportunity for me to combine everything I had learned and apply it in real time. Duties included, but are not limited to: voyage planning, bridge equipment maintenance, and charts and publication acquisition & updates, arrival and departure planning, bridge resource management, organizing student rotation for navigation watches. T.S Golden Bear training cruise 2019 - Ports of Call: Vallejo, CA - Los Angeles, CA - Panama Canal - Bridgetown, BB - Lisbon, PT - Azores, PT - Ft. Lauderdale, FL - Galveston, TXDates at sea: May 1st, 2019 - July 1st, 2019
Deck Cadet
Mississippi Voyager - Product Tanker An additional cadetship on a 30415 GT product tanker shuttling up and down the California coast. Daily duties included voyage planning, collision avoidance, bridge equipment testing, chart updating, cargo/ballast planning and operations, and mooring operations.
Deck Cadet
Pegasus Voyager - Crude Oil Tanker Internship aboard a 85,147 GT, foreign flagged, Crude Oil Tanker where I engaged in weekly ship-to-ship lightering operations with VLCC's and logged 32 pilotage transits into San Francisco Bay. Due to the vessels large size my daily duties varried a lot by day, excluding regular mirrored watches. Duties included voyage planning, collision avoidance, bridge equipment testing, chart updating, cargo planning & operations, and mooring operations. This was a busy trade, stopping at three ports per week along the California coast.
