The Open Politics Foundation aims to apply state of the art AI and search technology to make the Dutch democracy more transparent.

I lead the department (+- 70 FTE) responsible for driving business change through novel data technologies at Schiphol. I am a strong believer that successful application of technology is not about technology itself, but about transforming business through it. For this I believe that adoption is key. To ensure this, our strategy revolves around a strong product focus where we put the user central. We execute in multidisciplinary teams that combine technical skills with the transformation capabilities needed to not only create the solution, but also ensure successful business change to realise adoption and capitalize on the value of new technology.

I lead the machine learning & AI efforts at Royal Schiphol Group. Together with a team of 25 scientists & engineers we strive to make Schiphol a better, more efficient and more sustainable airport through the use of AI. To achieve this we work on a multitude of projects ranging from airport operations, asset management to passenger experience. Some examples of work we do:- We provide the AI driven backbone of Schiphol's airport operations center (APOC).- We predict passenger flow through our airport both operationally (live) as well as pre-operationally (planning). This allows us to prevent congestion and unsafe situations by possibly redirecting certain passenger streams.- Using deep learning on video sequences of the aircraft stand we identify in real time which steps of the turnaround process are completed and ongoing, using this as input for more accurate delay prediction.- We provide passengers with real time insight into the crowdedess via the Schiphol app to know where to go to maintain social distancing during Covid-19.In my role as lead I am responsible for defining the vision on the use of AI/ML in the Schiphol group and the technical execution of these projects.

As a Data Scientist at Future Facts I’ve worked on a variety of projects for different customers. I have for example worked on a recommender system for a customer that matches tenants to houses and on algorithms for anomaly detection for a large financial institution. Internally, I also mentor some of our junior data scientists and engineers.

As a data scientist within ING's Risk Services department I worked on various machine learning applications in the credit risk and non-financial risk domains. For example, I've deloped methods for large scale anomaly detection to improve data quality and I've worked on algorithms to assess the severity of non-financial risk issues.
