In April 2013 I decided to permanently return to South Africa. However, I decided to drive from England back to South Africa in my Land Rover Defender. In addition to the adventure part of the journey, my brother and I are running ARM/Raspberry Pi Embedded Linux courses on the way through Africa with sponsorship from ARM Ltd and the Raspberry Pi Foundation. The two day agenda covers a wide range of embedded Linux topics from building a custom Linux kernel and embedded filesystem to Linux application development, building and controlling external electronic circuits and finally controlling the circuit using the Linux sysfs GPIO interface. ASD consists of worldwide teams covering all aspects of ARM customer software and hardware training and design support. I am the technical lead for a specialized group assisting silicon partners, OEMs and third party companies worldwide with debugging, benchmarking and optimization of software running on ARM based SOCs: I deal with customer cases covering a wide range of topics. I am the technical lead for a specialized group assisting silicon partners, OEMs and third party companies worldwide with debugging, benchmarking and optimization of software running on ARM based SOCs: I deal with customer cases covering a wide range of topics. These can be summarized as processor architecture, debug architecture, software development tools and software optimization. The processor architecture covers topics such as the exception model, registers, modes, instruction sets, memory management, caches and performance counters. Debug architecture relates to the debug interfaces, debug behaviour and various trace components and protocols. ARM has its own software development suite which includes a compiler, assembler, linker, libraries, IDE, debugger and profiler. Finally, with excellent knowledge on the ARM architecture and compilation tools I also provide customers with guidance on software benchmarking and optimization techniques. The ADSL Proxy serves as a translation function translating between two proprietary interfaces, one at the management level, and the other at an ADSL chipset driver level.
