Course instructor for "Issues Related to Health of Underserved Women" for Bachelor of Science (BSN) students. Course elements include: overiew of women's health milestone recommendations throughout the life span, identifying underserved women, health-seeking behaviors, social determinants of Health (SDOH), adverse childhood experiences (ACE) , trauma-informed care (TIC), understanding underserved women, skills and strategies for assessment including motivational interviewing (MI) and shared decision-making (SDM), resources and tools for underserved patients and more!

As a participant in the Speakers Bureau of the Chicago Area Health Education Center (AHEC) with the Health & Medicine Policy Research Group, efforts are made "to recruit, train and retain a health professions workforce committed to under-served populations specifically in nursing.

During the past few summers, I served as an instructor to around 50 high school students in a course I created entitled: Nursing...Yesterday, Today, and Your Tomorrow!This course provided insight into the work role of nurses in the past, present and what it will entail in the near future. This course explored the educational requirements throughout time and what is expected in order to apply as a future nurse. Students in this course learned about the challenges and complexities of working in healthcare as well as learned to identify current public health issues of today. Additionally, students took a look into the interventions that nurses in their prospective role are expected to perform to solve those challenges. Lastly, students learned how to prepare personally, financially, mentally and more for their future as a registered nurse.

My general nursing employment history includes mainly working in long-term care, briefly in acute dialysis, med/surg. In regard to women's health I worked as a Women’s Health Outreach Coordinator (non-nursing), a community nurse in the Health Legacy Project with women and generational diabetes, and as a Clinical Coordinator nurse at a Uro/OB/Gyn clinic.
