The project included the mining of the excavations using trackless equipment, construction of a compressor station, raiseboring of two ventilation shafts, construction of main ventilation fan station, workshops, main store, conveyors and electrical reticulation.For two years during this period I was also responsible for the mining production of Marula mine and acted in the General Manager’s position on several occasions.Furthermore, I was responsible for the completion of a bankable feasibility study to exploit the Merensky reef at Marula.

I was appointed in terms of 2.13.1 of the Mine Health and Safety Act as the project engineer responsible for the 11 Shaft decline project. My role included compliance with all the engineer’s legal requirements, participation in the design team and to execute the project. My responsibilities included ensuring that the maintenance of the trackless fleet was done. Some of the main work included a headgear upgrade, surface silos, the construction of a rock winder, installation of pipes in the shaft, a monorail installation, conveyor belts, main ventilation fan station and the electrical reticulation.
