Jonathan Smith Email and Phone Number
From an early age, Jonathan exhibited a keen interest in understanding the mechanics of how things function, identifying their points of failure, and devising solutions to fix them. His parents recognized and nurtured this inherent passion, encouraging a spark of curiosity and innovation that would fuel his future endeavors.Jonathan’s initial exposure to robotic systems began at age 7 with scale models of Battle Bots. In 2005, his family relocated from New Orleans, Louisiana to North Texas following Hurricane Katrina. Jonathan was immersed in STEM-oriented extracurricular and summer programs, with a particular focus on the LEGO Mindstorms system. In 2011, Jonathan became a founding member of the Nolan Catholic HS robotics team, competing in the FIRST Robotics Competition. From 2011 to 2014, he played a crucial role in the team’s success, contributing to the design and construction of three different robots, securing a win at the Dallas Regional competition in 2012. During this period, Jonathan gained proficiency in AutoDesk Inventor, marking his introduction to 3D CAD modeling.Jonathan’s fascination with drones began in 2012 when he built his first drone, a DJI Flamewheel F550. This interest evolved into a deep-seated passion for aerial robotic systems and autonomy, which he pursued throughout his academic career. Jonathan enrolled at the University of North Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a Certificate in Manufacturing Engineering Technology.Following his graduation, Jonathan embarked on a professional career as a project manager, mechanical engineer, and designer. With increased financial resources, he invested in more advanced drone platforms, to include both custom built and OTS platforms.Regularly competing in the Dallas Drone Racing League, attending the Multi-GP International Open in Indiana, and co-owning the DFWFPV freestyle group, Jonathan continually tests and optimizes the latest flight controllers, ESCs, camera systems, and frames to stay on the leading edge. Recently, Jonathan joined Galaxy Unmanned Systems, where he is responsible for establishing the media production division while also contributing to Department of Defense projects with his extensive knowledge of drone design, integration, and flight operations. His expertise, deeply rooted in the enthusiast and hobbyist sectors, provides a distinctive perspective in contrast to current commercial practices.
