Freedom, interesting concept, I’m free and not because my forefathers had anything to do with it. I’m free because my grand mother took it for me from them and gave it to me. A woman who lived to be 94 years old. A woman that got up everyday and worked until she was 85 on the Southside of Chicago. Not as a materialistic capitalist but as a teacher. An empath.She decided in the 1940’s that she was going to college. She was not going to be a maid or a victim. In the 1940’s only 7% of women, any kind of woman went to college.I am the product of a courageous woman. Not a colonialist man.She fled the former slave confederacy of the south, escaped to the union north as a refugee. In Chicago, she educated herself, my mother and finally me.That’s how I got to here. That’s why I am uppity. That’s why to some, I don’t stay in my box, my place or my lane. That’s why to some I am that existential threat that speaks in a voice that deeply resonates something in narrow-minded people who do not believe in life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Those that do not believe in justice for all.I asked my grand mother one day to tell me the story of what she as a young woman, was thinking when she took that train north to freedom to Chicago to liberate herself from the tyranny of the American south.She said, ”I was thinking about my grand child.” She fantasized that her grand child could experience a world where they could operate utilizing their own free will. And do what ever they damn well pleased. Kind of like the colonialist who wanted to escape European rule. Only this time it was 14 score and 8 years ago.My grand mother dreamed me into existence with Hope and Story. So how did you get here?
