The Navy Family Ombudsman Program is a Navy-wide program established to improve mission readiness. A strong command Ombudsman Program helps ensure that families have the information necessary to meet the challenges of a military lifestyle and support a sailor's family so they can remain mission-ready. Ombudsmen are Navy Spouse volunteers appointed by the commanding officer and serve two important roles. First to act as a communication link between the commanding officer and command families. This includes relaying emergency communication and command climate. Secondly, they are professionally trained information and referral specialists for the command's families so Navy families can get the resources they are entitled to.
