Pegonu is a social experiment aiming to prove that kindness is contagious. Pegonu encourages participants to perform good deeds in their local community through this innovative, quirky project. Anyone can get involved. Everyone can benefit. The benefits to the local community include challenging stereotypes and developing better community cohesion between generations through positive social interaction. Kindness isn’t a new concept of course and people certainly don’t need a Pegonu peg to do something nice for someone else. Here’s the big difference: your Pegonu peg becomes the tangible link to you and your good deed and instigates the challenge to get involved. Pegonu wooden pegs are hand crafted to identify them and are available FOC from local, independent traders’ listed on social media. Once you've done your good deed, pass your peg on to inspire others. Participants are referred to online as PegPals. Positive side effects of participation in the Pegonu project include an increase in confidence through improved communication skills, leading to an increase in productivity and emotional well-being through the feel-good factor. Participation is encouraged through a mutual desire to make a difference in your local community. We’re not talking about grand gestures as a good deed: for example, recycle something; donate an unwanted item to charity; volunteer for a litter pick, hold a door open for someone to let them pass through (even if you’re not going in the same direction – not as easy as it sounds) or give up your seat for someone else. A smile is free and appreciating each other or saying thank you more often costs nothing either.
