I have been involved in writing press releases, monitoring press coverage using CisionPoint, instructing a photographer and working with the social media team to produce live coverage of an event. I have learnt the importance of targeting all audiences, from local to international, to increase public awareness of the charity and therefore aid fundraising and increase donations. I used my proactive nature and initiative to gain this role, volunteering during the days when I am not working in the retail sector at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage. Therefore, I often work seven days a week to accommodate both of these roles; however it is completely worth it in order for me to be able to gain indispensible experience in public relations.Working closely under the instruction of the Press Officer and PR Manager, I have been responsible for conducting vital research in a number of events put on by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. I have planned and conducted my own interviews and made immense progress in writing press releases and communicating with journalists. The Birthplace Trust is a charity which targets all members of the press: local, national, international, educational, political and cultural. This means that I have had experience in moulding my writing to suit a variety of journalists’ needs. I believe that one area I have given the most assistance to the team is in the targeting of different area of press by compiling information about newspapers, radio stations, television stations, magazines and online media which the charity aim to reach. This really opened my mind about how different aspects of the business aim to target various audiences. I also thrive in the research behind compiling press packs and information for press releases, which I feel has stemmed from the degree in history which I recently completed.
