Started off as Cashier, which I assisted in the restocking of the store's new location in Liverpool, NY. Having moved from their previous location in Clay, NY(which was about 200 feet). Then I transferred to PT Self Check Out Host, and was promoted to FT. I was happy to help the customers every chance I got, even getting to know some of them. It was challenging at first, but then once you got used to doing the work, it got easier. Cleaning the area, keeping it neat, and tending to eight terminals while making sure the customers have a positive attitude when they leave. It really did make me feel good. Show less

Immediate Mailing Services is a bulk mailing company that handles bank statements and bills from various companies. When you get your monthly statement in the mail, complete with the little pamphlet or other insert, that's this company.I would get the materials the staff needed to get their various jobs done, which often included stacking cases of envelopes by their workstations, and assisting them in putting completed mailings into trays for shipping.I also organized their… Show more Immediate Mailing Services is a bulk mailing company that handles bank statements and bills from various companies. When you get your monthly statement in the mail, complete with the little pamphlet or other insert, that's this company.I would get the materials the staff needed to get their various jobs done, which often included stacking cases of envelopes by their workstations, and assisting them in putting completed mailings into trays for shipping.I also organized their warehouse and departmental stock to better acquire the needed stock without having to spend more time searching for it than necessary.Other duties included receiving stock and goods, delivering them to their respective departments or offices, recording the receiving of said deliveries on the department terminal, and shipping of stock to one of our other holdings.Three times a week, I would collect the recyclable paper goods from the various departments for another company to take and dispose of. Once I got the hang of this portion of my job, I was able to save the company over ten thousand dollars in service fees. All I had to do was encourage the staff to break down the boxes instead of crushing them, which was safer than jumping up and down on them in their bins (the bins were large and rolled easily - health hazard).During slow periods I was sometimes put into the service of other jobs not in my actual description, such as grounds-keeping.I was dismissed for "leaving my department" despite the fact the whole building was my "department." Though it was a different story with each person I spoke with afterwards. I was told "things are just not working out" after eleven months, and dismissed over the phone by my then supervisor. Always a pleasure to see a customer return and thank me for recommending such wonderful films. Once I got to know the patrons, I could almost always recommend something they would really enjoy. On returning, I had foolishly quit my previous position, but found another one at the major area mall under the same company. Luckily it was the same position I had held previously at the original location I had worked at.The management was extremely pleased with my work, and the fact I actually drew in more customers from outside the area. The company passed to the hands of two other companies during my employment there.From F.W. Woolworth's to Pharmhouse Pharmacies in '95, to Phar-Mor in 2000 (if memory serves me). The first change saw the store move to a new location in the mall, and the loss of our video department.I was moved from video to cashier, then customer service. In November of 2001, just after Thanksgiving, our store was closed down, the store in Clay having been closed two years before. Show less
