During his 22-year tenure at William Paterson University, Francisco Díaz, currently Associate Vice President for Student Development has supervised a myriad of departments and functional areas, including Athletics & Recreation, Campus Activities, Service and Leadership, Campus Shuttle Services, Commuter Services, Financial Aid, Greek Life, Hospitality Services (Student Center, Dinning & Bookstore Operations, Events & Conferences, etc.), LGBTQA Programs, Orientation Programs, Student Conduct, the Student Government Association, Veteran and Military Affairs, and the Women’s Center. A transformative leader, Díaz is committed to student development and continuous improvement to campus life. From his start as a graduate assistant to his role as an associate vice president, he has cultivated a keen and holistic understanding of students’ needs and an appreciation for a variety of services and interventions needed for student success. Over the course of his 36-year career that spanned both public and private, community college and four-year institutions in New Jersey, Florida and New York, Díaz has directed a wide range of programs and services. Díaz also has served in the field through membership in professional organizations, such as the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), National Orientation Directors Association (NODA), National Association of Medical Minority Educators (NAMME), and the North American Association for Commencement Officers (NAACO), among others. Díaz has contributed through leadership roles, program reviews, presentations, and more. For these efforts and his work mentoring students and new professionals, Díaz has been recognized by various university and outside organizations, including Student Governments, Programming Boards, Greek Councils, the Educational Opportunity Fund Program (EOF), and the Azteca Chapter of Lambda Sigma Upsilon Fraternity. Some honors include Outstanding Club Advisor Awards, President’s Extra Mile and Student’s First Awards as well as the EOF NJ Champion, NODA Region VIII Outstanding Professional Award, the inaugural recipient of the EOF Roland Watts Outstanding Mentor Award and the Fred Turner Award for Outstanding Service to NASPA Region II.
