I also served as a key member of the executive team in setting the company’s strategic direction.Thermaquatica's mission is to develop and deploy their innovative OHD (Oxidative Hydrothermal Dissolution) technology for the production of chemical feedstocks and liquid fuels from non-petroleum based raw materials. OHD has been demonstrated for coal, biomass, oil sands and shale, and the process is unaffected by initial moisture content of the feed. Very high degrees of conversion to water-soluble, low molecular weight products can be readily achieved, with little to no production of CO2 or other problematic emissions.

As Director of the Illinois Clean Coal Institute (ICCI), I implemented the strategic goals and priorities of Illinois' Coal and Energy R&D program in six different research areas, spanning the full cycle from mining to end use. In Spring 2015 the ICCI had over 35 active projects with a combined project value of over $36 million. We monitored the technical progress and accomplishments of the projects via management and financial reports, field trips and interviews with principal investigators. Active in the commercial implementation of ICCI-funded research projects.

Managing projects related to the area of coal-fired electricity generation. For the first years of my employment at ICCI, I directed the Coal Residuals Management Program, where my responsibilities included the guiding of research in the areas of fly ash and FGD material. Later I managed projects in the area of flue-gas cleaning, especially mercury emissions. I was actively involved in commercial demonstrations in various research areas of interest to the ICCI, including my involvement to commercialize the ICCI-funded fly-ash brick project. Since 2005 I also managed projects in the areas of gasification, combustion and coal preparation.
