I share my time between my three loves: my family, being a company owner, and computer science, especially functional programming and Scala. Being a company owner is an amazing experience, far away from my comfort zone. You know, I'm a geek, and managing people, doing commercial and marketing stuff, and all the other things I didn't even know could exist before that experience are *hard*. But the awesomeness of seeing an idea grow and evolved to a working, profitable company, with actual people relying on it (and enjoying working with us :), is a wonderful reward. For the Scala part, it's nothing new and there is little to say. I started programming with OCaml back in 2001, did my master thesis in Coq with Sandrine Blazy and Xavier Leroy among other master minds... I was spoiled, static typing and functional programming will always be a reference point since then. So the next few years of Java coding were a business choice, not an heart one. However, the JVM stunned me from the beginning (and still impress me on a regular basis) and the Java ecosystem is huge and deep.When I first heard about Scala in 2005, I wondered if that could be the diamond I was looking for.
