Spaceteq is a company that builds satellites. In my first year I becamefamiliar with the space industry, where resources are very limited in terms of processing power,connection and battery. One of the requirements was for the software to run on Windowswhich is why we wrote the ground control software in C#. We followed Agile/Scrummethodology in our development process. I helped to fix bugs and implement new features in the ground control software, as well as write installers to enable seamless upgrading at all the ground stations. I also helped to develop and port flight software in C that would run on the satellite.We also undertook a large project of virtualising all of the different hardware components on the satellite in order to test both the flight software that has to control the hardware as well as the ground control software that has to communicate and execute commands on the satellite, before the satellite was built. A virtual satellite is also useful for demonstrating the capabilities of the software to prospective clients. I used vagrant to automate the setup of virtual machines on which the virtual satellite gets continually deployed, updated and tested via a build server.
