Dr. Frank Ayers is a Professor of Air Science at Embry Riddle's Daytona Beach campus. In this role he will be teaching and mentoring undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students and engaging in writing, speaking and flying to further the art and science of aviation, flight training, organizational design and leadership, and flight safety. From 2009-2019, Dr. Ayers was the 7th Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of the Prescott, Ariz., campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he is responsible for the full range of academic, operational, and professional activities and sets strategic direction in areas such as business operations, enrollment management, academic support, financial aid, and student life.From 2005-2009 he was the Chairman of the flight training department at the University's Daytona Beach, Fla., campus. From 2003-2005, while serving as a Professor of Aeronautical Science, Dr. Ayers was principal investigator for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Industry Training Standards (FITS) research program. Dr. Ayers joined the university as an Assistant professor of Air Science in the Fall of 2000. Prior to joining Embry-Riddle, Dr. Ayers served in the United States Air Force, for 26 years, where he served as a B 52 Instructor Pilot, Commander of a B-52 Training Squadron, Group Commander, and Chief of Joint Military Education Policy at the Pentagon, among many various assignments. He has earned the Airline Transport Pilot certificate, with type ratings in the Boeing 757 and 767, and is a Certified Flight Instructor. Dr. Ayers has logged over 6,500 flight hours in a wide variety of aircraft types. I have been writing for the magazine since November of 2020 and contribute two monthly columns titled "Pro Pilot Tips for Private Pilots" and "This Incredible Plane" to this well-respected General Aviation focused trade publication. Subjects range from aviation safety, operational procedures, and aviation history. I additionally author the occasional feature article for the publication. -

As Chancellor, he oversaw a full range of academic, operational and professional activities, and set strategic direction in academics, business operations, enrollment management, academic support, financial aid and student life. His other responsibilities included leadership at the University Cabinet level, philanthropic initiatives and external relationships with government and industry. During his tenure, the Western Campus of Embry -Riddle Aeronautical University experienced simultaneous growth in the quantity and quality of all aspects of academic and co-curricular life. Under his leadership, the campus doubled in size, increased new enrollments by over 50 percent while significantly increasing entering student academic profiles, first year retention, diversity and four and six-year graduation rates.
