Before the dawn of “Dot-Com”, when the Internet existed with only “.mil” and “.edu” domains, I was present in both worlds. I worked as a Systems Analyst - Programmer for the Department of Defense Systems Automation Center (DSAC) on the “event history” databases. Transactions of the movement of everything the DoD had ever bought, sold, built, destroyed, demilitarized, etc. A global, relational database that was developed to provide expedited replenishment of mission critical parts and supplies by tracking the life history of every nut, bolt, helicopter, tank, etc. and the components of which they were comprised so they could rapidly locate replacements. The DoD is where I started dabbling with global email administration, using sendmail on Unix.I had an amazing 13 year run at Avanade, helping Microsoft migrate the largest clients in the world to Microsoft’s BPOS-Dedicated and Federal and later to Office 365 and then Microsoft 365. I’ve worked with the best and brightest in Avanade, Accenture, Microsoft, delivering for clients around the world. I’ve worked on migrations of a few thousand, to hundreds of thousands of users. I’ve built and led teams from 3 people to over 300 as part of rapid deployments to support new initiatives. I’ve helped Fortune 500 (and Fortune 10) clients navigate to avoid pitfalls and landmines along the paths to adopting Microsoft Technologies. I have helped migrate from nearly every email platform to the MSFT Cloud.I’m not entirely surprised to be released since I’d not been billable since December 7th, when I totaled my truck on my way home from the park with my dog, Mayzee. I spent the next 6 days in the ICU of the trauma center at University of Chicago. The next two months were spent at home, recovering from 4 broken ribs, 3 fractured vertebrae, and a number of other injuries. I had just returned to the office, to find that there was a significant number of projects that had been put on hold and our “bench” was bulging, so I think that equation was pretty clear.For the next chapter(s) of my adventure, I want to apply my unique knowledge, gifts and abilities to improving the human condition. Here are a couple of my wish projects:• Search and monitor the Great Lakes quality using Deep Machine Learning / Image Recognition to identify different pathogens.• Use a drone with Image Recognition and AI to locate swimmers struggling in rough lake conditions to deliver flotation equipment and assist with rescue operations.Time for some re-reads: Limitless, Embracing Chaos, How to Fly a Horse.The adventure continues
