Served as Plant Engineer for a wood window and door company. Surpervised construction of all types of triangle, octagon, elliptical, circular and rectangular insulated glass units with internal grills and wood window frames. Oversaw design and installation of wood dust collection system for entire plant. Redesigned equipment used to mortise interior and exterior pre-hung insulated door assemblies. Ran Quality Control Department of plant and installed a vertical wall test chamber capable of vacuum load testing finished window and door units to check for air leakage and water penetration.

Joined the Building Products Group of Reynolds Metals Company and oversaw the engineering and quality operations of five manufacturing plants, which consisted of a vinyl siding plant, a window manufacturing plant, a roll formed aluminum and steel siding manufactured housing plant, a roll formed aluminum and steel corrugated commercial and industrial sheeting plant, and an aluminum roll formed siding, soffit, and gutter accessories plant that also had a continous vertical paint line used to make coated aluminum gutter and trim coil products. Coordinated introduction of new products starting with the creation of production drawings, purchase of new tooling, and testing of prototype products before product was released for sale.

Designed solar hot water heating systems using a glazed aluminum solar collector with an aluminum serpentine solar panel with a selective black surface. Treated water was run through the pressurized solar collector using of a small circulating pump that transferred the heated fluid through a double wall heat exchanger. The other side of the double wall heat exchanger circulated potable water from a hot water storage tank for domestic use. Also designed and manufactured commercial solar water heating systems and swimming pool/spa solar heating systems.

Designed new windows and sliding glass door assemblies using aluminum thermal break window extrusions with and without vinyl cladding, and vinyl extrusions. Window designs included fixed (picture) windows, horizontal sliding windows, single hung windows, double hung (tilt-in) windows, casement windows, and awning windows.

Conducted performance testing on aluminum and vinyl windows and sliding glass doors; wind load testing of aluminum, steel and asphalt roofing products; stress-strain testin of electrical conductor cables; impact tested aluminum bumpers for cars and light trucks; load-deflection testing of residential, commercial and industrial siding products; cyclic testing of hinges and aluminum structural connectors for extruded aluminum cattle and swine pen flooring products; temperature index testing of insulated glass and wall constructions; and hail stone impact testing of vinyl, steel and aluminum siding products with a compressed air gun system.
