Frank Odongo is a Chief Designer at Longhorn Publishers. He possess expertise in graphic design, publishing, adobe photoshop, indesign, adobe illustrator and 45 more skills. Colleagues describe him as "I worked with Frank Otieno Odongo for 15 years at Longhorn Publishers. We recruited him to take charge of design at Sasa Sema which was an imprint of Longhorn Publishers. He rose through the ranks to be the Chief Designer at Longhorn Publishers. He had an amiable and humble personality that made him not only work amicably with everyone in the Publishing Department but also staff from other departments. Before him, we had a not-so-friendly Chief Designer whom everyone worked to avoid so Frank was a breath of fresh air. So humble that as bosses in the department we felt he can be misused to do work that others avoided but he put everything in his stride and delivered. Technically, he was competent and gifted. He took the initiative to train staff who were not designers to have a grip of design software. When Indesign was knew Frank took the lead to train the editors. His management style was democratic. Considering the stress of publication projects, it is likely in Frank's position one would snap. Not so for him. He managed other designers to work seamlessly with the editors and printers. Where you are working with very short deadlines, handling both front list and back list, dealing with many countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi and Cameroon) projects, Frank still managed to be sane. It didn't stop there. Other company projects like promotion material, calendars and annual reports found their way to Frank's desk. He handled all with unmatched dexterity. While at it, being on top of software work, he also doubled as hardware troubleshooter. He was the one who sorted us not only when our computers (both PCs and Macintosh) malfunctioned but even when LAN or WAN issues cropped, we sought he help. To succeed you need continuous learning and improvement. Frank, despite the busy schedule completed his bachelor's degree while I was his HoD. This added to his diploma from the Kenya Polytechnic. More importantly was his LinkedIn Learning. We made the hours clocked as a KPI measure in performance appraisal. While there are staff under me who didn't even log in, Frank clocked 10 times the target hours. No wonder he became very good in Digital Learning. Before I left Longhorn, I had agreed with him we change from making Digital Learning as a different section rather it be an extension of design so that the output can in print, audio, audio-visual or any other format we would render digital content in. Talking of Audio-Visual, Frank was our unofficial still and visual photographer. To submit work to bodies like KICD, we had to have accompanying (to text) digital media. Frank did that for us thus giving us convenience and saving cost. Frank is very many things, all good, that even what I have written I haven't scratched the surface. If I had capital to establish a content company, I will go Frank then an able administrator called Monica Kinyua also at Longhorn Publishers.
