  • Grrr Charge Games
    Director / Tech Lead
Grrr Charge Games Feb 2008 - Feb 2012
    • Grrr Charge Games are a developer of computer games targeted towards the casual market. I worked as a Technical Director from inception, responsible for approximately 50% of the companies’ staff. I oversaw all non-artistic areas of production; technical design and architecture, dev assistance, tooling, QA, packaging and release, along with some legal and administrative tasks.• The games were developed in C++, Lua, Objective-C and Flash. It was typical to work on threading, graphics, sound, network and AI code on each project.
  • Wisper Networks
    Director
    Wisper Networks Apr 2004 - Jun 2011
    • Wisper Networks was set up as a Wireless ISP to meet the demand generated by a lack of broadband in the North West of Ireland covering a client base of about 300,000 people over 10,000 km.. The company also provides hosting services from facilities in Dublin, London and Amsterdam. In 2006 a remote backup service was added, and in 2008 IPv6 was extended to the entire network. The company also provides managed network and server services to many clients. • In this position I gained an extended knowledge of distributed and wide networks and faced many of the more uncommon technical challenges (routing issues, for example) as well as supporting a large range of databases and server configurations.
  • Media Design School
    Assistant Tutor
Media Design School May 2006 - Aug 2006
    Auckland, Nz
    • In this position I was responsible for teaching Mathematics, Physics, Programming along with various “one off” lessons (Ethics, for example) to Game Design students. • I created frameworks and provided mentoring for student projects (thesis) in C++ w/STL and Boost, Cg, and the GameBryo, Torque and Unity 3D engines.• I also provided support to other tutors, set and marked exams, helped set curriculum and ensured that the school remained compliant with NZQA guidelines.
  • Vc Computers
    Engineer
    Vc Computers Nov 1998 - Mar 2004
    • This position was primarily hands on, providing remote and on site desktop and server support to a very large amount of clients, including An Garda Siochana (the Irish police force), The Bank of Ireland, ESB (the Electricity Supply Board of Ireland), ACC Bank, Hibernian Insurance and the North Western Health Board. The systems ranged up to 100+ servers and 5000+ desktops. • The position also required a large amount of ad-hoc development in various languages as I worked on everything from EPoS systems, embedded controllers to BI reporting.• During this time I did a lot of work on sensitive computers in secured facilities, and gained a lot of experience of large scale networks, national and international clients and corporate culture.
  • Cyberworld Ireland
    System Administrator
    Cyberworld Ireland Jul 1997 - Nov 1998
    • In July 1997 I was asked to design and commission an Internet cafe (one of the first in the country). Originally there were 20 clients and a server attached to a 64k frame relay connection. In August, the cafe opened, and I was kept on as a Systems Administrator and Developer.• In October, a training facility was added, raising the network to 40 clients. By December, we had begun providing internet connectivity to other SME’s in the area and had expanded into web and email hosting. In February 1998, we began to stream a local radio station using Windows Media Streaming – the first organization in the country to do so.• During this time I created and developed websites and eCommerce platforms.• When I left in April, there were 130 clients on the network, 5 servers, 40 domains being hosted and 6 stations being streamed. • I gained a huge amount of experience in this position about running networks professionally, about dealing with awkward clients and about making limited resources stretch much further than would be expected.
