Greater Seattle Area

Responsible for the oversight and operation of two programs: Seattle Youth Commission and the Seattle Participatory Budgeting (PB) Program. Built year two of PB (Your Voice, Your Choice) from ground up, including planning, design, outreach, and implementation. Managed substantial change between year one and year two of Participatory Budgeting, merging two existing programs Youth Voice, Youth Choice and the Neighborhood Park & Street Fund; Doubling the community participation from both former programs. Advised City departments on youth engagement strategies; including One Center City, Youth Orca Program, Housing Affordability and Livability Agenda, Summer of Safety, and Youth Jobs Initiative.

Seattle

Served as liaison between city officials, community members, organizations and agencies; provided guidance to City departments on inclusive community outreach and communication strategies for over 30 Seattle neighborhoods in southeast and northeast Seattle. Established relationships and provided customer service to community stakeholders and residents and promoted opportunities to support neighborhood community development. Developed bi-weekly e-newsletter to inform community members of available City/community opportunities, resulting in greater community participation in City and neighborhood initiatives and programs; average yearly distribution list growth of 200%. Coordinated interdepartmental teams and other project specific work groups to address an array of neighborhood projects and issues. Designed internal CRM strategy for organizing contacts and communication across team. Fostered race and social equity lens to city initiatives within assigned district and internal programs.

Greater Seattle Area

Assisted in the development of the Capacity-Building Fund/ Technical Assistance contract and reporting materials for the Multicultural Community Center (MCC) Feasibility-Planning. Designed tracking system to manage 9 contracts with community-based organizations in Southeast Seattle. Assisted in the planning and facilitation of monthly MCC Steering Committee meetings.

Greater Seattle Area

For the People’s Academy for Community Engagement (PACE), designed and implemented citywide outreach plan to promote PACE Community Project opportunity; resulted in 37 project submissions from 33 Seattle neighborhood/community organizations. Worked with PACE team to identify 12 community projects and partner organizations to support the leadership development and community engagement curriculum for the 2013-14 PACE program.

Assisted in development and implementation of TIPS yearly fundraising plan – including fundraisers, donor cultivation events, donor acknowledgement, and matching fund requests. Managed program budgets, forecasting, and data-entry and reporting to internal stakeholders. Communicated successes with funders and regional stakeholders.

Greater Seattle Area

Coordinated College Bound Scholarship (CBS) sign-up efforts between the Higher Education Coordinating Board, Seattle College Access Network, and Seattle Public Schools, which resulted in 97% of eligible students successfully ‘College Bound,’ a 25% district-wide increase over efforts in previous year. Created a CBS toolkit with promising practices from neighboring districts, lessons learned from the 2010-11 year, and a list of CBS sign-up strategies and resources to assist in future CBS sign-up efforts.

Seattle, Wa

I conducted an extensive outreach and data collection campaign among community-based youth-organizations, local high schools and the Seattle youth community to identify the web-based communications needs and preferences of Seattle’s youth community. Based on data collected, I presented recommendations for how the City of Seattle can increase the effectiveness of the current teen website.

Developed an interactive youth engagement outreach plan and program curriculum to engage youth in the Seattle Neighborhood Plan Updates for Rainier Beach and Broadview-Bitter Lake-Haller Lake neighborhoods. Established strategic partnerships with community organizations, businesses and schools.

Served as liaison between Mayor’s Office, City Council, DON and youth commissioners, ensured city officials were aware of the needs of the youth community. Broadened outreach strategies, doubling the applicant pool, which resulted in the selection of a talented group of youth who reflected the diverse multicultural /socio-economic make-up of Seattle’s youth community. Designed and implemented a series of skill-building workshops to enhance youth civic engagement. Established strategic partnerships with community organizations, schools and interdepartmental City youth programs to strengthen the level of youth engagement. Successfully transitioned the Mayor’s Youth Council to the Seattle Youth Commission, opening the door for deeper youth civic engagement and connection with the City Council, as well as the Mayor’s Office.

Designed funding opportunity materials and conducted outreach to Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative (SYVPI) Networks, youth service providers and programs in central, southeast, and southwest Seattle neighborhoods. Provided technical assistance to 50+ youth-service providers, which resulted in 38 submitted grant applications and 18 successfully-funded projects for a total award amount of $180,000; Managed 18 grant projects, ranging from $3,000 to $15,000.• Assembled and coordinated two eight-person grant review boards to read and review thirty-eight applications and make funding recommendations to department director• Developed, contracted and managed a total of eighteen projects, ranging from $15,000 to $3,000 award amount levels

Jamaica, W.I.

As a Literacy and Information Technology (IT) Specialist at Cavaliers All-Age School, assisted students with reading at the pre-primer reading level, leading to a school-wide 80% student pass rate for the National Grade Six Achievement Test, a 30% increase from previous year. Developed and implemented training modules to enhance IT-awareness of students, faculty and community members. Created nationally recognized, game-based educational programs to assist students with preparation for Jamaican standardized testing; program was distributed to 70+ schools.

Interagency Academy

Taught with the Interagency Academy at the King County Juvenile Detention Center and Youth Education Program sites. Assisted at-risk youth, aged 14-21 years old, in an intensive G.E.D. preparation and credit retrieval program through individualized instruction and the use of innovative teaching strategies.
