My personal goal is: "To do today that, which in five years, will be proven correct." I will continue to strive to make a real difference. My passion, enthusiasm and dedication which I used to implement policy and community reforms in fishing, has also been used to bring reform in the health sector. I believe that "Knowledge is empowering" and look forward to engendering support for real change. Health and fishing share huge constituencies with divergent views. I have been able to facilitate visionary outcomes in both, saving lives and ensuring the survival of endangered species with the full support of the community.I have written 15 fishing books including Australian Fish Guide - (100,000 sold) and Aust and US Lures Encyclopedias, with 100+ articles on fishing, management, sport and health in Australia and USA. I have been a speaker in Australia, New Zealand, Finland, USA. I support youth and developed award winning Young Future Leaders and Fishing Clinics programs. I have won an Australian Sports Medal and was twice Chair of the Australian peak fishing body, winning its first Lifetime Achievement Award.I have been a Board member of the Fisheries Research Advisory Board overseeing much of Australia's fisheries research. I was on the UWA medical school board, advisory committee for Telethon Kids Institute, the Primary Care Health Network (PCHN) Eexecutive, and Medicare Local advisory committees.I was active in sports management, having been on the Board of the Champion Perth Wildcats basketball team, Basketball WA, and WA Sports Federation. I still love working for positive change; and fishing.

Executive DirectorHealth Consumers' Council Oct 2012 - Sep 2014Perth, AustraliaMade significant advances in addressing the many challenges and many opportunities for health professionals, carers, patients and the health system to work more on making people 'better' rather than just fixing up a part of the human 'machine' that needs 'repair'.The Health Consumers' Council has three main program areas, 1. Working on health policy development at national, state and local levels; 2. Improving health advice through consumer representatives and in facilitation with other health related NGO's; and 3. Providing an advocacy service for individual health consumers who have had difficulties in some part of their experience. We have a successful Aboriginal advocacy service. The Health Consumers' Council has been completely re-branded and positioned to make a greater difference in strategic policy matters. There will be a need for strength, courage and cohesiveness to address the resistance to change which exists in some areas. There is also a need to ensure that consumers recognise they have a part to play in their own health care, and to work with the system as best they can. I was able to identify service gaps and seek improvements. Strategic areas include mental health care, oral health reforms, training more GP's, improving informed consent, incorporating consumer experiences and journeys in innovation planning, and access for health care in regional Western Australia. We had a vital role to play in improving communication between primary and tertiary health care, public and private systems and improving systems. -
