Since co-founding eleven-x, each day brings something new. While I still revel in software engineering and team building, I and my partner Ryan find ourselves in the roles of marketers, salesmen, negotiators, recruiters, business planners and analysts. We constantly get to meet new and interesting business leaders as explore exciting technologies and ideas.We have been fortunate to have the opportunities to collaborate in fields such as M2M, wearables, intellectual property and robotics. We are thrilled to have been able to hire a team of world class LTE engineers and get back to protocol stack development. With such a great team, eleven-x and our customers are going to do great things. Moving in the Accelerator Centre in Waterloo has put eleven-x in great environment that will help fuel our success.

Responsible for development and delivery of Layers 2 and 3 of the 3GPP protocol stack as well as the Cellular integration software in BBOS and BlackBerry10 platforms. Both my team and I have reputations for being highly knowledgeable and being able to deliver high quality software on time. Activities:• Managed up to 45 people in multiple teams across 3 sites• Managed full life cycle of software from concept through to field support.• Project planning, priorities, risk mitigation, critical issue tracking and reporting for 3G, LTE and BB10 development• Handled much of the front line field support, looking at device logs, coordinating with test teams, talking to network carriers and providing fixes.• Handled the administrative aspects of team leadership such as staff planning, hiring, coaching, performance reviews, career and compensation planning.• Part of the senior leadership team for the department planning both overall product and group strategy.

Managed a small but high performing team of firmware developers as we evolve our modem solution to meet the changing demands of the Smartphone market we helped create. During this period we delivered support for 3G which was enormous challenge requiring many innovative solutions.Activities:• Designed and coded all the NAS additions to support 3G and the inter-operability of 2G and 3G.• Triage all in coming NAS and radio service issues from field testing, inter-op testing, certification testing, and carrier testing.• Developed Multi-core solutions with separate Application and modem cores.• Initiate performance and quality improvement projects.• Manage all projects within the team, assign staff, track progress, risk mitigation• Hiring, training, performance reviews and compensation planning.

The first product (BB 8700) containing our BlackBerry developed 2G modem solution was released in 2005. I then began 3G adding 3G support to our protocol stack.• Debugged, fix and hardened 2G platform to production quality. • Designed and developed extensions the NAS to support 3G.• Ported NAS code to the Nucleus OS and Intel evaluation board to produce a functioning 3G prototype.• Debugged 3G issues, found solutions, ran certification tests, supported IOT testing.• Extend our regression testing coverage

Initially brought in to RIM to be part its first 3GPP modem team that integrated and maintained a third party protocol stack. Moved on to start our own modem development effort at the start of 2003. • Integrated new radio code releases from the vendor into the RIM platform.• Debugged, fixed and enhanced the 3rd party protocol stack from L3 to L1 and SIM driver. Successfully launched RIMs initial 2G devices into US and Europe. • Helped design overall structure of our new protocol stack.• Lead the detailed design of the NAS.• Implemented Mobility Management, Session Management, LLC, SNDCP, and the modem interface.• Helped design and develop our custom debugging tools and PC based simulation environment

A small start-up providing modem reference designs for land line modems. I was the micro-controller developer. The company focused on producing original solutions for low speed, low cost modems.• Designed and wrote the code for the AT command set, data handling, data pump control and RS-232 driver.• Travelled to customer sites to help integration of the software.• Produced modem controller solution with using only 128 bytes of RAM.• Code written in C and AssemblerSoftArt MicroSystems was purchased by Research in Motion in 2000 as part of RIM’s desire to acquire quality developers for its cellular modem team
