I started at the bakery 10 years ago as a mechanic on the floor. After completing my probation period of 6 months I was offered the position of supervisor. After 6 months of the supervisor's position I was offered the position of Assistant Chief. I have been detrimental in the set up and application of a new preventative maintenance system. We had to add all equipment, people, and inventory, into the new system. Then assign 3 shifts of mechanics and supervisors to preventative maintenance schedules. This included the time it takes to complete PM tasks. I am personally responsible for 4 production lines and all the facility here at Hostess Brands in Biddeford Me. I am acting Chief Engineer and have been in this position for 5 months this time and 4 months 3 yrs ago. In my current capacity I have reduced mechanical down time by about 2 % in the last 3 months, to about 1.5%. All this while doing the work of the Chief Engineer as well as the duties of 2 assistant chief engineers, while Hostess Brands is in the effor of down sizing it's operations. While in my position here at Hostess Brands, I have been in 2 major projects. Both projects for a combined total of about 4 million dollars. I deal with all vendors for afore mentioned projects as well as for state permits of pressure vessel, boilers, and city permits dealing with a waste water treatment plant. I oversee the safety, GMP's, SOP's, for the engineering deptment as well a major factor in the implementation and establishment of each. We have been through BRC audits and passed with an A. As well as in the 980's or excellent for AIB audits. I am responsible for environmental issues in regards to the bakery air and water quality and permits.
I was the only engineer assigned to the fishmeal dept. My responsibilities included both maintenance and preventative maintenance and operation of a by-product recovery aboard a fish-processing vessel that works off the coast of Washington and Alaska. I was the department head, which includes the tasks of job assignment, crew scheduling, safety, and ordering of all parts required for the production of fishmeal. The vessel is old so there is a lot of maintenance as well as re-fabrication and fabrication to the structural integrity of both equipment and piping. I was also the consultant as well as welder on other necessities through out the vessel. Within my department we overhauled pumps motors, various production equipment such as conveyors, gearboxes, a 400 degree forced air furnace, and 4 centrifuges for the separation of solids and fish oil. Our schedules ran 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. My responsibilities also included the safety and operational training for all the personnel that work within the department, as well as other departments through out the vessel.
My responsibilities here were, the fabrication of bridge girders. This entailed working closely with Q.C. on layouts, cuts and welds of all steel parts and splices through out the construction of bridge girders. I was also accountable for all the steel that was used for these purposes as it all had to be used according to jobs. After 2 months I was asked to start and run a second shift until someone could be found to run it, which took about 2 months. Then returned to first shift for the remainder of the year, at which time E.C. S. lost their lease on the building in South Portland, Me. And moved their operation back to N. H. their main office. I was offered a job but did not want to move my family.

(Non Union division of G.E.) North Carolina.I worked for this Co. in 2 locations. 1st was at the Maine Energy Recovery Co. in Biddeford, Me. My responsibility was the installation of rip-shear shredders, trammels, conveyors, both overhead and floor level, as well as steel flight conveyors. I also achieved my welding certification as a structural welder for the installation of steel decking, or wherever needed through out the construction site. At the completion of construction I was asked to stay on until the facility was up and running completing G.E. obligation to the construction and operation of the waste to energy plant. I was responsible for the alterations and re-fit of all non-functional equipment. I was then asked to join the start up and operation of the waste to energy plant that had been built by the same Co. in Brewer Maine. Where again we had to do modifications to conveyors and structure of the plant, as well as repair or replacement of non-functional equipment. I spent about 1-½ years traveling from Biddeford to Bangor for a week at a time.
2nd classI spent 6 yrs on 2 steam-propelled ships operating 600 lb M type superheated boilers. On my last ship I was leading petty officer of the after boiler rm. I was responsible for the repair and maintenance of 2 boilers and all aux equipment, such as fuel oil service pumps, bilge pumps, steam driven forced draft blowers, etc. I was in charge of the boiler rooms operation, repair and maintenance. I assigned jobs and ensured their completion in compliance with the Navy's Planned Maintenance system. I was on-scene leader for the ships fire fighting crew. On the last ship I was put on a mechanical trouble shooting team that would some times go to other vessels to trouble shoot pumps and equipment.My last 2 yrs in the Navy was a working member of the Naval Absentee Collection Unit This was the apprehension and distribution of awol members of the Navy. We covered all of New England and up state N.Y. Basically we picked them up from police departments and took them back to their ship where ever it was at, both in the U.S. and all over the world.
