Throughout his career, Fred Miller has served the people of Michigan at the federal, state, and local levels, presently as Deputy Oakland County Clerk/ Register of Deeds. When Macomb County voters tapped Fred Miller to lead the County Clerk & Register of Deeds Offices in 2018 after the previous elected Clerk was removed from office by a judge, a focus on collaborative leadership and creative problem-solving helped Fred Miller implement a turn-around plan for the office that restored and improved important public services. The effort culminated in the office being recognized with four national awards for "excellence and innovation in government."As State Representative from 2005 to 2010, Miller had 12 of his bills signed into law. Fred served as chair of both the House Committee on Labor as well as the Appropriations Subcommittee on Community Colleges. Fred also led an effort to increase access to college degree programs in Macomb County, including the creation of the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine -- Macomb Campus.A member of the first Macomb Board of Commissioners under the new charter, Fred was an advocate for transparency, accountability, and fiscal restraint as the new form of government took shape. He chaired the committee that drafted the county’s first-ever Ethics Ordinance and authored the county’s purchasing ordinance. Three times, Fred opposed pay raises for himself and other county officials.Fred has also served in Oakland County as Deputy Treasurer and presently as Deputy County Clerk/ Register of Deeds, where he helps manage innovative, award winning programs. ​A graduate of Michigan State University’s James Madison College, Fred worked in both Washington, D.C., and Michigan as an aide to U.S. Senator Carl Levin, Congressman David Bonior and State Senator Ken DeBeaussaert. Fred and his wife Jennifer live in Rochester Hills with their two daughters.
