Appointed by President Bush to serve as Secretary Tommy Thompson and Secretary Mike Leavitt’s direct representative in the Midwest Region of the U.S. which includes the states of: Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.• Acted as spokesman and “public face” of agency in the Midwest• Cultivated and maintained working relationships with Governors, State Health/Medicaid/Emergency Mgmt. Directors, Members of Congress, State Legislators, Mayors, and other key state, local and tribal officials for the purpose of negotiating sensitive, controversial and political issues within the Region• Played an instrumental role in the public education and implementation of key Presidential initiatives such as the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit; Health Care Transparency (Value Driven Healthcare); Medicaid reform; Affordable Choices for the Uninsured; and Pandemic Influenza Preparedness at the state and local level.
