Hired as an a pump station operator for a contract with the Atlanta Water Works, (City of Atlanta) we had acquired in 2003, and raised to plant supervisor of the facility within a couple years. This one hundred year old facility utilized inverters and motors for pumping on one half of the plant. On the other side were boilers and steam turbines dating back to the early 1900’s. We operated and maintained all the systems throughout the plant.During this nine year contract, my technical skills were key in acquiring another contract replacing and networking the city-wide telemetry for Atlanta Water Works. The telemetry measured pressures throughout the city, as well as operated pumps remotely. I headed up this project, as well as designed, built, programmed and networked the 50+ sidewalk units in the system.

Working in the Unbundled Network Elements area of BellSouth, I worked with Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLEC's), testing and turning up new circuits. At times I worked with the repair side of the division as well, where more troubleshooting was generally required. At approximately the one year mark, I was made a coach, a relieving supervisor position. I was responsible for the training of generally a dozen new hires at any given time, as well as working the floor helping other techs with troubles they may be having.

I was responsible for training, sales and equipment service to any customer purchasing our packaging materials, regardless equipment manufacturer, within the southern California and Arizona areas. Required skills included electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, relay logic and PLC troubleshooting.

When our Work Center Supervisor (a 1st class billet) was promoted and transferred off the ship, I was tasked to replace him as the senior 2nd class. For six months just prior to my end of service, I ran the work center, managing 8 to 9 other electrician's, until a new 1st class finally transferred aboard.
