When large scale disasters occur in Atlantic Canada, our PDCT responds to manage the response from a provincial/regional level. As Logistics Section Lead on this team, I facilitate all logistical support as above in the operation through coordination with various field operations members, in both Logistics and Emergency Management, with staff or volunteers.

Atlantic Zone

Previously as Logistics Officer then as Logistics Manager I’ve designed and implemented a Logistics Program for the Atlantic Canada region, and successive provincial programs for each of the 4 provinces. Collaborating with the Atlantic Emergency Management Team, National Office Supply Chain Management Team, and with colleagues across Canada, the program is focused in providing support for disaster operations wherever and whenever they occur. Development of the program has centered around two core foundations of access to information and the 7 Rights of Logistics. Information needs to be timely, accurate, detailed, easy to use and accessible to those who need it. This is managed through SharePoints, Dashboards, standard operating procedures, and user-friendly simplified processes. Then the 7 Rights ensure we get the Right product, in the Right quantity, in the Right condition, at the Right place, at the Right time, to the Right team, at the Right price. This is done through managing inventory and movements, and procurement activities such as sourcing vendors and procuring goods and services. Building vendor relationships has been a critical component of this success, especially post-pandemic as the supply chain industry and individual suppliers have experienced significant disruptions to their operations and supply lines. As a secondary position of Purchase Agent for the Emergency Management program within Atlantic, I facilitated sourcing, procurement and payment processes related to response operations & projects. I've deployed in this dual-capacity on numerous occasions to assist with large scale disasters in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, and provided remote support to Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland & Labrador.Most days, I was either assisting during a response, resetting from a previous one, or preparing for the next one, which make the job very interesting!

Over the course of 11 months I oversaw a Logistics Team of 6 responders providing logistical support to Edmonton, Fort McMurray, surrounding areas for internal teams and external beneficiaries. This included sourcing & procuring goods & services, inventory management & shipping of supplies, vehicle fleet management, tracking and distributing technology assets, and building relationships with suppliers, hotels, & service providers. This routinely involved developing and maintaining numerous trackers and spreadsheets, invoices, purchase orders, and responding to the needs of numerous departments. I also collaborated with local, provincial and national teams to ensure sufficient and efficient support to our operational teams. It was very hectic, but thoroughly enjoying!

(Contract Position)

I oversaw the City of Moncton donation depot which was opened to assist with the Syrian Refugee Response. Managing a team of staff and volunteers, and with various other teams on the response, we accepted public and corporate donations of household goods for refugee families. We received & processed these inbound donations, then sorted, picked and delivered apartment kit orders directly to those refugee families. By creating a clean and transparent depot, effectively using resources, and building strong communication ties to all teams, I was able to respond quickly to ever changing schedules and calls for assistance by all those involved. I took over as the city's response's Logistics Section Chief. This allowed me to have an even greater role in providing logistical support to all teams operating on this response, including transportation needs, feedings, and managing various resources. This was an amazing opportunity and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with those I worked with, and for the accomplishments we managed to make happen in such a hectic and critical time for the newcomers.

Responsible for receiving area: assist unloading average 100 skids per day, confirm accuracy, send to zones for other teams to put away, investigate and resolve problem shipments, work with trucking agency dispatchers, oversee two employees. Responsible for shipping area: average 90 skid shipments per day across Atlantic Canada, sort product to store order pallets, confirm accuracy, use pallet wrapping machines, loading trucks with electric jacks and forklifts, complete waybills, ensure dangerous goods compliance, investigate and resolve problem shipments, respond to customer requests for special service and complaints, maintain tight deadlines, use WM and AS400 computer systems, work with numerous trucking agency dispatchers and schedules, oversee 10 employees. Also created and provided employee training, improved team communication and overall efficiency.
