I love to help solve employment problems, think through complicated situations and identify effective, practical solutions.I provide my business clients (both the private and public sector) with counsel in all aspects local, state and federal law governing the employer-employee relationship. In the course of 40 years, I have gained experience in areas such as: the conduct of internal investigations; employee discipline; medical leaves; accommodations for disabled employees; discrimination claims based on age, race, gender, religion, disability, perceived disability, national origin, sexual harassment; retaliation; and, wrongful termination. At this point in my career, I believe that the best service I can provide to my clients is consultations designed to minimize exposure to employee lawsuits and protracted problems. It is my mission is to provide practical and proactive employment law consultations to help you develop and update employment policies, procedures and practices tailored to your industry, size, sector and location.I have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including, interviewing, investigation, in-depth analysis, issue identification, research, and needs analysis.In the performance of my work I maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality, exercise of sound judgment and high ethical standards.My approach to problem solving is very straightforward. ☛ Attorney/Solution Finder (Employment Relations): As a sole practitioner of an employment law practice, I successfully represented over 1000 clients from both the private and public sections resolving claims arising under state and federal laws including: violations of the FMLA, FLSA, RLA, ERISA; discrimination claims based on age, race, gender, religion, disability, perceived disability, national origin, sexual harassment, retaliation; wrongful termination; defamation; intentional infliction of emotional distress; and, constitutional claims for public sector clients. The focus of my practice was the resolution of negotiation, conciliation, mediation, and arbitration.☛ Professional License Defense: In addition to my employment practice, I defended approximately 100 individuals and small businesses holding professional licenses issued by the State of California in disciplinary actions and administrative hearings.☛ Consultant/Mentor: I was retained by SEIU LOCAL 707 (now Local 1021), Santa Rosa, California, between 2001-2007 as an advisor/consultant in the areas of employment and labor law to 707’s Field Agents and union members, providing services such as: legal research; coaching and mentorship of staff on negotiations and labor dispute resolution; case analysis; strategy; and, applications for disability leaves and service-connected disability retirements. ☛ Consulting Attorney: From 1984-1986, I was retained by Sonoma State University to work with the California Attorney General’s Office and California State University’s Office of General Counsel in the litigation and resolution of several complex and highly sensitive employment lawsuits filed against the University by members of the faculty and administration.

During my tenure at Sonoma State University, I was promoted through a series of assignments from that of a Student Program Assistant, through Associate Dean of Students, and, before I opened my private law practice, Assistant to the University’s President/Judicial Affairs.☛ Assistant to the President/Judicial Affairs (1980-1984): In this position, I reported directly to the University’s President exercising and a high degree of initiative in the performance of my duties. I provided direction and support for compliance with laws, regulations, and human resource policies. In addition, I directly interfaced with Campus Managers, Staff, Faculty, Labor Representatives, University Legal Counsel, Academic Personnel, Human Resources Staff, as well as individuals at the California State University (CSU) Office of the General Counsel, other campuses within the CSU, Deputy Attorney Generals, State of California; and external compliance and investigatory entities, agencies, and individuals.☛ Associate Dean (Students/Judicial Affairs Officer (1977-1980): While serving as Associate Dean of Students, I developed, along with the Dean of Students and the University’s Director of Human Resources, what would later develop into the Assistant to the President/Judicial Affairs position. In addition to my duties as Associate Dean of Students, I assumed responsibility for the investigation of complaints regarding staff, faculty and student misconduct; responsibility for the serving as the University’s representative at grievances and disciplinary actions; and, the University’s representative the California State University (CSU) Office of the General Counsel; attorneys assigned to the campus by the Office of the Attorney General, State of California; and external entities, agencies, and individuals, such as representatives of FEHA, EEOC, OFCCP, and U.S. Department of Education.
