Developed a cost-effective and less complex technology, "Cold Cracking Catalytic Chemical Upgrading " technology known as "B2U- process" for bitumen and heavy oil upgrading. The catalysts for the process are derived from agricultural waste as well as chemical waste from hydro-metallurgical processing plant. The technology is simple, with low carbon footprint, does not require external hydrogen supply, does not need nor use expensive metal-based catalysts; it operates at low temperatures and minimum pressures and therefore does not contribute to carbon dioxide exposure to or pollution of the atmosphere. A plant based on the technology can be established at a fraction of the cost of existing bitumen upgrading plants that are based on hydro-processing and those plants based on high temperature treatments such as coking and vis-breaking. The technology has been issued a Canadian patent. The US patent application for the same technology is currently under review.
