At Harper General Contractors, I gained valuable insight and knowledge in environmental system construction with a major focus on freshwater and wastewater treatment plants in combination with sustainable building practices. I have been exposed to a wide range of material, most notably: reading and analyzing engineered plans, ordering material, task flow, forming commitments. I also became extremely comfortable with the overall process of buyout, tracking material, assembling takeoffs, job site scheduling, total station work, the process of microtunneling, ozone water treatment, and sustainable infrastructure. At Harper, I received an Envision Sustainability Professional certification. I worked on creating various templates to track and create both future and current Envision projects at Harper. This includes various tasks such as overall file tracking and recycled content tracking. Thorough and tedious work was done to compile and compose documentation for Envision Credit Package files. I had the honor of sitting on Harper’s Sustainability Committee to discuss internal sustainability efforts. I created 'one-sheeters' to discuss various sustainable methods that could be easily implemented throughout the Environmental Systems Division. I attended a SustainSC conference in Columbia, SC, where discussions were held with large companies located in South Carolina about what sustainability looks like in the state currently for the various companies, and what we should be striving towards in sustainability efforts. The conference was an excellent opportunity to gain insight into other companies' visions and to share ideas to encourage and participate in a more sustainable path for South Carolina.
