Artist
CurrentI have been a practising artist since graduating from Burslem College of Art in 1974. I have exhibited nationally and internationally; after being granted a visa as an 'Artist of Exceptional Merit', in 1990 I relocated to the USA where I lived and worked until my return to the UK in 2007. In 1996, I was invited to lecture on 'Dream and Reality in Art' at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and in 2000 a book on my life and work was published in America. My original paintings and limited edition graphics are in many private and corporate collections throughout the world. I am a painter of today with a vision for the future, but my roots lie deep in the past. As an artist I am dedicated to the traditional techniques of oil painting and believe it is important to reintroduce skilled craftsmanship into making art. My atmospheric paintings are like half-remembered dream images of real places in the world, glimpsed briefly as we awaken. It has been said of my work: "That Frederick's vision resonates with all who see it is evidenced by the many collectors who await his latest works as he continues his quest, not to reflect the visible, but to make visible. His is a search for truth, a seeking after man's rightful place in the universe, a reconciliation of inner and outer. It is a journey that mirrors our own".
