I am responsible for developing a novel algorithm for real-time tissue oxygenation measurement using a multispectral imaging camera system suitable for non-invasive image-guided surgical interventional procedures. I am also in charge for analysis of analytical and diagnostic data in the planning of technical experiments, creation of experimental designs, statistical analysis plans, evaluation of study results and creation of analysis reports as well presentation of results (data and image processing). Support in the development of validation tests, corresponding calibration, and systems.Apparently, I am designing a neonatal phantom circuit with a custom built ECMO oxygenating closed loop phantom circuit for the calibration and validation of the imaging system in a live tissue environment. The project involves the validation of algorithms developed and calibration of the methods with global clinical reference. I am using appropriate state of the art statistical procedures for the design of experiments and implementing new protocols in the detection of real-time oxygenation in tissues. I am getting more specialized in the areas of perfusion technology. This position serves as an interface between imaging system developers and the clinicians- surgeons.
Graduate Research Assistant
I was responsible for developing a miniaturized collimator suitable for a miniaturized x-ray applicator which was planned to be used in the intraoperative radiation therapy procedures in the larynx cancer treatment. The clinical needs were identified by visiting larynx cancer dissection surgeries in the Hospital. The ideation was created followed by the Biodesign process. The surgical workflow, clinical problems were considered during the process of ideation. Mathematical approaches were followed to design the geometry of the focusing and x-ray shielding properties. The conceptual designs involved creating 3D models considering the ergonomics of the radiation therapist and the surgeon. All 3D models were studied for the feasibility analysis involving the geometry, use in the intraoperative surgery. The most suited 3D model was machined, fabricated including a micro endoscopy of 0.5 mm diameter for visualization of the procedure. The prototype was tested based on the ease of use, focusing mechanism, dose properties in a lead shielded laboratory casing. The results enabled the use of such applicator in a clinical setting usable for intraoperative localized radiation therapy bringing faster and shorter radiation therapy to the patients. Internship at Healthcare Technology Innovation Centre ( A joint initiative of Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Department of Biotechnology Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi, India). I was responsible for developing algorithms for determining multiple parameters of the COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder) patients using a wearable wrist based medical device. The body activity like calories burnt, steps taken including (walking, jogging, running, cycling), sleep activity(Light Sleep, REM, Deep Sleep) was determined using a 3 axis accelerometer. The algorithm was tested using 2 clinical standard references including wearable devices. Algorithm for Heart rate, the Spo2 determination was made using PPG based methods. The calculated values were compared in real-time with a reference monitoring instruments. Electronic circuits for the micro wrist band was designed and implemented initially using LabVIEW and later into RTOS micro controller under Embedded platform. Additionally, an in vitro diagnostic platform was also prepared for reading the data into the PC real-time using various communication interfacing protocols and applications. The device was tested and deep understanding of the device operation and faster-analyzing methods was also made.
