For eighteen years, I've been an educator in traditional and non-traditional K-12 environments, and I have taught adult ESL as well. In that time, I've helped countless students find their voices as writers and discover how to communicate more effectively. In early 2022, my career shifted directions, and I am applying the same principles of good writing I once taught others to my own freelance writing. As an avid researcher, I enjoy learning and writing across a wide spectrum of topics, but my particular interests include education, Christian discipleship, family life, parenting, child development, leadership training and instruction, social sciences, human-interest storytelling, travel, and volunteerism. Highlights of my teaching career have included:* Creating and leading Phase 1, a middle school service program at Oak Mountain Middle School that contributed over $10,000 and 25,000 hours of service work in the 5 years I was a part of the program.* Being selected by my co-workers as Teacher-of-the-Year for Oak Mountain Middle School in 2004. * Co-creating and leading Navigators Homeschool Cooperative to build a social, service, and academic network for local families. * Developing a servant-leadership course for high school students.* Doing what I love most (educating) with my favorite students (my own 4 children) for the last 12 years.
