I’m Gabby Rivera (she/her) and I’m a Bronx-born, queer Latinx writer. Currently, I’m writing AMERICA for Marvel comics. Writing Marvel’s first Latina lesbian character, America Chavez, is the most wild ride ever and I’m just happy to be here. Also, my YA novel, Juliet Takes a Breath is a thing you should read and then send a copy to your gay baby cousin. Anyway, Hi.I also speak on my experiences as QTPOC writer, an LGBTQ youth advocate, and the importance of centering joy in our narratives as Latinx people and people of color.Gabby is repped by New Leaf Literary and signed to the LAVIN Agency.My earlier life/work experience includes:Teaching Artist, Writer, Director and ProducerI’ve spent the last few years working with youth in educational, arts, social justice-based settings. My job and my passion has been to share knowledge and provide access to those who are underserved and underrepresented. In 2012, I was hired as a film and video Teaching Artist with the DreamYard Project. As an in-house TA, I also developed and facilitated the Rainbow Squad, our LGBTQIA youth group and developed safer sex workshops for teenagers of all sexualities.In addition, I have worked written for and organized with Autostraddle.com, the largest independently-owned queer media news outlet. I’ve also been involved in their A-Camps – conferences geared towards fostering community and providing health and sexuality education for LGBTQ-identified people.
